Why We Vote - Thangam Debbonaire

Thangam Debbonaire | @ThangamMP

Former Bristol West MP and current Labour candidate, Thangam Debbonaire tells us why she will be voting in this year's General Election and who her fantasy MP is.

Thangam Debbonaire

Why vote?

Because women in this country died for us to have the right to vote; because people all over the world suffer from being denied the right to vote and being unable to get rid of despotic leaders; and because, if you don't vote, you don't really have the right to complain about the government we end up with.

What will you be voting for?

I'll be voting for gender equality, for investment in renewable energy to help halt climate change, and for our education health and social care services to have the support they need.

Who would be your fantasy MP and why?

I would like someone with the campaigning skill of Barbara Castle, the elegance of Glenda Jackson and the pioneering scientific rigour of Marie Curie – because all three were terrific leaders and inspiring women.
