Why We Vote - Baroness Barker

Baroness Barker | @LizBarkerLords

We asked Liberal Democrat Peer, Baroness Liz Barker, why she will be voting on 8 June.

Why vote?

Women fought, and died, for the right to vote. Democracy is precious; use it or lose it. Big donors and newspapers wield influence, but we citizens have the right to make up our own mind, and make our voice heard. If you don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything.

What will you be voting for?

Securing jobs and life chances for young people, which means keeping as many strong ties to Europe as possible. As always, securing the right of women and girls to make informed decisions about relationships, sex and their economic well-being. Commitment to human rights and LGBT+ equality everywhere.

Who would be your fantasy MP and why?

A mash up of Michelle Obama, Shirley Williams, Billie-Jean King and Malala Yousafzai. Pioneering wisdom combined with graceful, articulate determination to change the future for all women and girls. That would inspire me.
